Management Team
Daniel Ryan, President & CEO
Dan has more than two decades of experience at network and system technology companies. Most recently, Dan was the executive vice president and general manager for the network security business unit of McAfee, Inc. Dan joined McAfee in 2008 when it acquired Secure Computing (SCUR) for $465M, where he was chief executive officer, and director. Prior, he was senior vice president of enterprise content management products at Oracle after their acquisition of Stellent in 2006 for $440M. Dan served as president and chief operating officer at Stellent (STEL), which became an industry leader in enterprise content management during his tenure, growing from $2M to approximately $130M at the time of the acquisition. Dan also held executive positions at Foglight, Compact Devices and Sync Research (SYNX). Dan received his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Economics from University of Minnesota.
Carl Mower, VP of Engineering & Co-Founder
Carl has 24 years in software, almost all of it in networking software. His most recent 14 years have been exclusively in network management software development. Past employers include DuPont, Digital, Cabletron, Nortel, SmartPipes, Symbol, and Blue Coat. He has two patents (#7,430,198, #7,352,712), two more patent applications filed, plus 5 more filed with Pareto. He previously taught grad-level networking classes at Boston University, holds a BS in Electrical Engineering (1986) and an MS in Computer Engineering (1993). Carl learned his first coding language on punch-cards (1980).
Michael Peachey, VP, Marketing & Product Management
With over 15 years in the networking industry, Michael leads Pareto Networks’ marketing and product management team. Prior to Pareto Networks, Michael held product management and product marketing roles at Juniper Networks who he joined through the acquisition of Peribit Networks in 2005. Michael was a key member of the team that launched Juniper’s EX-series switches to market in 2008. Prior to Juniper & Peribit, Michael was product manager for Lucent Technologies VitalSuite product line, based in EMEA. He has also held consulting roles at International Network Services, Tertio Ltd in the UK and began his career at the Australian Stock Exchange. Michael holds a BSc (Business Information Technology) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
Cindy O’Connell, VP, Business Operations
Cindy comes to Pareto with over 25 years of operations expertise. Prior to joining Pareto, she served as VP of Operations at Rohati Systems. Prior to Rohati, Cindy was Director of Operations for Palo Alto Networks where she was responsible for the development and implementation of scalable and cost-effective solutions for the company’s outsourced supply chain, logistics, order and fulfillment infrastructure, and RMA warranty processing and support.
Previously, Cindy was Director of Operations for Peribit Networks. During her tenure at Peribit she managed the company’s manufacturing, incoming and outgoing supply chain, global logistics and order management and fulfillment capabilities. Cindy scaled operations from a single product, single market (USA) to a broad product portfolio of hardware and software products that were sold, distributed and shipped into markets worldwide. Peribit was acquired by Juniper Networks in 2005. Cindy also held operations roles at Applied Signal Technology, Boeing, Litton, and Textron.
Board Members
John McNulty
John McNulty, served as Chairman, President and CEO of Secure Computing Corporation, from 1999 through April of 2008 and served on the Board of Directors until the company was acquired at the end of 2008. Under his leadership, Secure Computing evolved into a leading enterprise gateway security company, going from sales of $20 million per year in 2000 to more than $250 million in 2007. McNulty brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the high-tech industry. Before joining Secure Computing, he served as senior vice president of sales, services and business development at Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories, Inc., a leading independent software company in the computer telephony integration environment. During his tenure there, McNulty helped Genesys grow from 11 million a year to well over 100 million a year in 2 years and at the same time take the Company public. Prior to Genesis, McNulty had a distinguished career at Intel Corporation, where he held several positions in marketing and business development. He also served as general manager of the company’s commercial memory and micro systems division. Mr. McNulty also serves on the Board of Directors of Shavlik Technologies and cPacket Networks both private companies.
Tom Kendra
Tom Kendra is Executive Vice President of CA’s Enterprise Products & Solutions Business Line. He is responsible for developing product, technology and acquisition strategies for CA’s Assurance, Clarity, Security & Compliance, Storage, and Virtualization & Automation business units. He also serves on CA’s Executive Leadership Team, which supervises the business and technology strategies for the company as a whole. Tom joined CA in February 2009. He most recently was at Symantec Corp., where as group president of the security and data management group he led product management, engineering, alliances and business development. Earlier, he was group president for sales, services and support, leading a worldwide team of sales, technical, services and support professionals. Prior to joining Symantec, Mr. Kendra spent 26 years at IBM, where he held a number of executive positions in the software and server groups within the U.S. and with worldwide responsibility. Tom currently is on the Board of Directors of RightNow Technologies and serves on its Audit & Governance, and nominating committees. He is also on the Board of Directors of Pareto Networks and is on the executive board of directors of the Association for Corporate Growth, Silicon Valley. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Matthew Palmer
Matt Palmer co-founded Pareto Networks and served as its CEO through August 2010. Matt has over 17 years of security and networking experience, at companies including Juniper Networks, Qualys and nCircle. Having come to Juniper via the NetScreen acquisition, he was Vice President of Enterprise Planning and Operations focused on security and enterprise networking strategy and corporate development activities, including strategic partnerships, investment and M & A. Prior, Matt led business development at Qualys and nCircle and founded Invigo and Remote Networks Systems. He received his bachelor of science in Business Management with a focus in entrepreneurship and a minor in Economics from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
